Although the event was held back in December, with the new website going live, we felt it a good time to post up some background information for the event and some muddy pictures of the day.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is a cause very close to both DHD Direct Home Delivery, and parent company Cranleigh Freight Services. Our chairman Colin Young MBE among other charity commitments is the president of the Cranleigh branch of the association and has been giving continued support for a number of years.

So when the call came asking for a 4 man team from the company to tear around the army assault course at Pirbright and raise money for MNDA, needless to say we jumped at the chance. The event was organised by the Surrey Police Dog Handling Unit and our brave 4 man team challenging them was made up of: Adam Frater and Stuart Cole from our DHD 2 man delivery team, Wayne Stafford from UK freight warehouse operations and Alex Nunns from the DHD warehouse.

On a cold December day, after a quick change, the boys were immediately thrown into the ironically named “warm-up” consisting of rolling around in freezing mud. The main event was still to come, and after being demonstrated the daunting course they were split into 2 mixed teams. Faced with a number of gruelling heights, ropes, jumps and walls in front of them, the DHD/CFS team rose to the occasion and raced round the course with 2 members finishing on the winning side.

Nursing their aching muscles and getting their breath back, the team were led into the sports hall for some warm-downs and team building exercises. The day ended with some celebratory photos and the team headed home - to finish their work day!!!

All in all, the event was a massive success, raising just under £400 for the MNDA. A big thank you to Surrey Police Dog Handling Unit team for organising event, and to the victorious team from DHD/CFS.
