Airflow Truck Company in the US has unveiled a new design of big rig truck that could dramatically improve fuel efficiency for UK freight services providers if put into use.

The new 'Supertruck' is currently under construction, but the manufacturer claims the chassis of the vehicle has been designed in such a way to reduce aerodynamic drag by as much as 63 per cent over regular lorries.

Furthermore, the vehicle benefits from a super computer-designed undertray and a set of finely tuned wind deflectors that when fitted to existing big rigs could double fuel efficiency, the firm has stated.

Santander Car Insurance recently offered advice to UK freight drivers on some of the best ways to drive more economically.

The company advised ensuring tyre pressures are at their optimum level to improve grip and also to reduce fuel usage. In addition, drivers should remember to turn off their air conditioning, as this can add up to 20 per cent on to fuel consumption.
