The Highways Agency is set to start a £195,000 scheme to improve road safety on the A585 near Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire.

It has been welcomed by residents and councillors in the Wyre region and will see renovations to the Norcross roundabout. Drivers and freight services may be disrupted in the coming days as the road needs to be resurfaced.

However, bosses at the organisation believe that the work is essential to road safety within the area. Lane markings around the roundabout will be made clearer to give drivers better guidance whilst navigating the area.

Andy Withington, the Highways Agency's service delivery manager for the north-west, said: "We hope we have come up with a project here which will improve safety around the junction without the fundamental alterations we suggested last year and local representatives are supportive of this revised scheme."

In December last year, the area's fire service held a motorway safety day in order to highlight the risks of driving along Lancashire roads. It also aimed to reduce the amount fire engine call outs for crashes.
