Drivers and freight services using the M4 could face disruption as the Highways Agency plans to carry out lighting work.

The affected area will be the slip road on junction seven near Slough, Berkshire, and is planned to last six weeks. The organisation is planning to change 123 bulbs on the eastbound and westbound entry as well as the exit slip roads.

Officials have said they will be replaced with brighter bulbs aimed to increase the visibility on the busy motorway. Signs and safety barriers will also be upgraded as part of the organisation's scheme.

The work on the M4, which connects London to Wales, will be completed in three phases and will replace bulbs installed in 1972.

Graeme Steward, Highways Agency project manager, said: "The lighting has reached the end of its useful life. Replacing it will help keep journeys on the M4 safe and reliable for the thousands of drivers who use junction seven every day."
