The new chairman of the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is aiming to carry on the good work of the organisation.
Eric Fisher, former chairman of FTA's east of England freight council, has said that he is "delighted" to be appointed head of the national brand of the organisation and has set out to make a number of changes to the way freight services are managed.
He commended the work of outgoing chairman Peter Staines who oversaw a number of crucial achievements by the FTA.
During his tenure the organisation managed to avoid the ill-advised mandatory "eco-driving" involved in professional training and rejected European Union proposals on digital tachographs.
Mr Fisher has stated he hopes to leave a similar "legacy" on the FTA throughout his reign and with freight drivers continuing to be disgruntled about the rising cost of fuel it could not be a better time to start.
He said: "Expectations for 2012 and beyond are as high as ever. Recent discussion items that we hope to bear fruit in the near future include the impact of metal theft and alternative fuel use."
