RHA backs fuel price cuts for all

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has backed announcements by supermarkets across the UK of a two pence per litre (ppl) reduction in petrol and diesel prices.

"This is good news for the motorist," said RHA chief executive Geoff Dunning. "However, by their very nature, heavy goods vehicles are unable to take advantage of these cuts, quite simply because they are not allowed onto supermarket forecourts."

He added that these cuts should therefore take place across the board, with all fuel providers reducing their prices in line with recent falls in the international oil market.

The organisation recently showed oil prices have fallen by 13 per cent since the end of July and therefore retailers must take action or face some tough questions.

Mr Dunning added that it is imperative that a five ppl reduction in the price of fuel is seen over the coming weeks, as retailers are quick to put up prices when it suits them, but not enough action is being seen in the opposite direction as of yet.
