Vehicles run on electricity rather than petrol tend to disappoint customers by their aesthetics, according to an industry source, a sentiment possibly shared by many 2 man delivery drivers.
Robert Fowler, chief executive officer at Alternative Vehicles Technology, highlighted the difficulties faced by manufacturers.
"Many individuals have expressed disappointment with the appearance of the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi's offering and how much they cost, though by all accounts, both work well," he said.
Delivery drivers will no doubt be keen to adopt such vehicles for their lower running costs, but Mr Fowler pointed out that it is difficult for manufacturers to keep the capital cost of an electric car comparable to a conventional option.
In his view, further increases to the price of petrol would certainly make electric alternatives more attractive.
This week, drivers were advised by a Driving Standards Agency representative to take short breaks on long journeys to prevent the onset of fatigue.
