Drivers and freight services using the M6 could be affected as part of the motorway is set for overnight closures.

The Highways Agency is planning to shut the stretch of road at the Catthrope Interchange, Leicestershire, between February 17th and 18th. The closures are so that the organisation can continue work to replace the nearby viaduct.

On both occasions the motorway will be closed at 10pm on the Friday and 8pm on the Saturday and reopened at 8am the following morning in a bid to keep disruption to a minimum.

Work to replace the Catthorpe Viaduct began in July 2010 with the project set to be completed in spring 2012 and has been built alongside the existing structure.

Ivan Marriott, Highways Agency project manager, said: "These closures will allow for our road workers to safely install expansion joints on the new viaduct. We would like to thank road users for their patience and co-operation, and ask them to bear with us for a little longer with these closures."
